Technology Practice

Photography by Diane WalkerHow can the computer, which is so individually oriented, be helpful in deepening spirituality? “People need to be in community—seeing and being with each other one-on-one, to have a full experience of the soul,” we hear ourselves saying. And for ourselves, we may use the computer for work, for learning, for connecting with family and friends, for entertainment, but can’t imagine how or why we would use it as a spiritual practice.

Technology practice has the capacity to take us from disbelief, to wonder, to the heart of God. There are so many possible ways to use the computer for spiritual practice. There are worship services we can download to our iPods, guided meditations, Bible study, spiritual questions to ponder and journal about, prayer communities to join, and new forms of prayer to explore. There seems to be an endless array of opportunities to feed our souls.
